Brave Browser is developed by Brave Software, which was co-founded by Brendan Eich, the creator of the JavaScript programming language and co-founder of Mozilla.
The browser is based on the Chromium browser. It pretty much looks like Chrome, feels like Chrome, and is capable of running all your favorite Chrome extensions.
Google has been continuously working to make it a lot harder to block ads in Chromium. Brave helps to prevent ads while increasing speed at the same time. Most invasive ads are blocked by default and it also blocks website trackers.
You have the option (if you wish) to turn on Brave ads. Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) are rewarded for allowing popup notifications for Brave ads. These aren’t big, flashy ads. Just a little notification and you don’t even have to click on it. You get rewarded just for allowing the notification to appear. BAT are sort of like Bitcoins. 1 BAT is equal to like 18 cents. You earn roughly .01 BAT per notification. You will not get rich from this, but you will get paid to do something you’re already doing anyway. And you’ll do it with less invasive ads and faster speeds. If you don’t care about the tokens, you can always turn the Brave ads off and just enjoy the browser.
You can also contribute BAT to any Brave verified website in the form of tips so you can help support the websites that you find useful, without emptying your pockets.
If you have your own website, you can become Brave verified and accept tips from other Brave users. You can also earn BAT when you get people to try Brave browser for 30 days by downloading it through your referral link.
A few things I’d like to point out.
1. Auto contribute is turned on by default. Just FYI. You can turn it off if you wish.
2. If you use Brave on your computer and on your phone or mobile device, the sync option will only sync your bookmarks, not your rewards. As of right now, they are all independent wallets. This may change in the future.
3. You can backup and restore your wallet with a recovery key. Save your recovery key somewhere safe right away, that way you can restore everything if something happens. At the moment this feature is not available on mobile devices. So be sure to cash out or donate whatever you earn on your mobile device if you upgrade. I know they do have plans to add the backup and restore to mobile devices in the future.
If you’d like to try Brave Browser, please download it through my referral link below! If you already use Brave Browser and you find any of the content on this website useful, please consider tipping some BAT. Thanks so much!
